Barter

Music, Canapés an eclectic collection of people, painting’s, photographs and sculptures. And post-it notes…

Barter is a community service share and an art exhibition with a difference.

Pea Head’s Barter is inspired by Truc Troc – a concept originating in Brussels.

At the event, visitors can trade anything they wish for a piece of art: an object, service, trip, even a hug perhaps… anything that might interest the artist. No money is involved, only unexpected and unique exchanges.

July 13 Barter; Live music including Spanish guitar, and xylophone by Jams, and taster of La Mula Obstinada’s fantastic fresh Spanish menu in canapés. There are also male model human canvases to get creative with…

We provide you with a post-it notes and you use your imagination!

Photographs, illustrations, paintings and mixed media range from the beautiful to unusual with plenty in between. The artists are local and shall be there throughout the evening to chat or barter with.

When the visitor is drawn to a piece of art he can propose his swap, and leave his name and phone number on a post-it which he sticks next to the piece he likes. The artist, present on the premises, will decide whether they want to call him back, negotiate a bit more or confirm the swap, on that same day or on another.

HISTORY

Mon de Rijck and Charline Mahy inaugurated in 1975 the first ‘Truc Troc’ in the Castle Malou at Woluwe-Saint-Lambert. Almost 30 years later, this interesting event was recreated, with great success at the Bozar galley in Belgium, where I was inspired to bring it to Edinburgh.
